The outstanding sales figures were driven by a superlative safety record and excellent cold weather performance according to a company spokesperson, particularly with regard to the Tesla Model S.
The company prides itself on being the only car manufacturer with a perfect safety record of zero deaths or serious permanent injuries. Tesla vehicles have now been on the road for almost six years in 31 countries with almost 200 million miles to date. There have been high speed collisions, but the driver and passengers in such events have always been protected, something that the company claims as its highest achievement.
The car has been given a 5 star safety rating after independent testing by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), both overall and in every subcategory. Of all the vehicles tested by NHTSA, including every major make and model on sale in the US, the Model S has set a new record for the lowest likelihood of injury to occupants.
The Model S also has performs well in cold weather and on snow and ice, due to its electric powertrain. The company’s highest sales per capita are in Norway with one customer living above the Arctic Circle.
