The TEV project is aiming to advance road infrastructure and the way people travel. Its director, Caroline Jones Carrick, attended the summit’s Radical Urban Transportation Salon on April 20-21 alongside 60 other inspiring influencers from a range of transportation disciplines including robotics, city planning, autonomous vehicles and architecture.
Caroline was invited by the team at Amazon to attend the summit to hear about the highway design which powers electric and hybrid cars, allowing them to charge as they travel. She met other like-minded entrepreneurs, academics and policy makers as well as Amazon senior management where she presented her ideas behind the project and why she thinks TEV is the solution to problems with current highway systems.
“Being invited by Amazon’s Department of Ideas to the Salon was an incredible opportunity” Caroline said. “Meeting like-minded people that want to change the way we design and use transportation was such an amazing experience and allowed me to take home some exciting new ideas. It was also great to present the ideas behind TEV as I was able to hear feedback right there and then and discuss solutions with people from other transport disciplines who have different perspectives on what will and won’t work for a better transport future. For me, the future of highways is TEV. So getting the chance to link up with others that offer ideas that can influence our design in a positive way, was incredible and I can’t wait to continue connecting with similar people in the future.”
The TEV Project
Alongside Caroline to the invite-only event were attendees from Harvard University’s Department of Urban Planning, Senior management from Hyperloop One and Uber’s new Elevate project. Caroline now plans to continue conversations and sharing ideas with other people in the industry to help push TEV one step closer to becoming a reality.
TEV offers a vision of the future in which electric cars and fleet vehicles drive on a dedicated lane under full automatic control, allowing passengers to travel safely at high speeds enabling greater passenger-carrying capacities compared with traditional motorways. The solution is the vision of Caroline’s father, inventor Will Jones, who is also an expert in battery design and founder of Philadelphia Scientific, a leading provider of products and services for industrial batteries and infrastructure, operating from North America, Europe, Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific.
