Alstom’s Group Chief Innovation Officer, Ronan Stephan, was present at the signing alongside CityU’s President and Distinguished Professor, Professor Way Kuo. CityU has more than 20,000 students and more than 3,000 faculty members, research and supporting staff, making the university a prime candidate for strategic partnership in Alstom’s ambitions to invent and develop the next generation of Advanced Open Systems for Smart Cities.
Under the terms of the agreement, CityU will assist Alstom in recruiting talents and identifying research results with commercialisation potential in the field of energy and transport. This will be conducted through a joint research centre dedicated to smart cities. The two partners will also collaborate in education and executive training with Alstom providing free training on its platform to masters and/or PhD students from CityU. Alstom will also support an incubator programme in CityU to enhance local innovation and to support young entrepreneurships.
An Alstom spokesman said that the group is keen on encouraging open innovation strategies in order to stimulate cross sector synergies and to facilitate partnerships and alliances in the different markets in which the Group operates.
