The company is keeping very tight-lipped about it at the moment but it has confirmed it is building the plant and that it will have seven production lines with an annual production capacity of 1 gigawatt hours (GWh). It intends to use Australian raw materials, although some overseas processing may be required initially and the technology is licensed from a worldwide leader in lithium ion technology.
The factory will focus primarily on serving the Australian and South-East Asian markets and the energy storage systems it manufactures will be designed for commercial and utility-scale projects only, not residential. The first cells will roll out from the factory by late 2018.
The company intend to issue more detailed announcements about the factory soon.
