It is the third eCentre order the company has received from a Millicom Group company, helping to consolidate Flexenclosure’s position in the Latin American market. The company first entered this market in 2016 when it constructed a data centre for Millicom’s Tigo Business Paraguay. The facility was the first professional colocation facility in the country and the first Uptime Institute Tier III certified prefabricated data centre built anywhere across the continent.
The new TigoUne installation is also a Tier III facility, but at 770 square metres, it is twice the size of the Paraguay data centre and the first of its kind in Colombia. TigoUne will use the facility to integrate services such as cloud servers, applications, storage, backup and recovery, collocation, virtual desks, cybersecurity, IoT, big data and analytics and cloud environments – both private and public or hybrid.
”At TigoUne we are committed to delivering the best possible service to our customers who are at the core of all our operations, and our company’s new data centre in Colombia is proof of this” said Marcelo Cataldo, President of TigoUne.
David King, CEO, Flexenclosure, added that it is the company’s first project in Columbia and its second eCentre deployment in Latin America. The order cements Flexenclosure’s relationship with the Millicom group and reinforces its commitment to the Latin American market. The company has a proven track record in deploying data centres in the most challenging of environments. In this case, at 2,640 meters above sea level, the high-altitude deployment placed special demands on the design of the cooling and power equipment due to the lower air density, with the systems needing to be de-rated accordingly.
The eCentre – a custom-designed, prefabricated data centre building that is fast to deploy, energy efficient and easy to expand – was prefabricated at Flexenclosure’s factory in Sweden and shipped to Colombia where final assembly and commissioning has now been completed.
Millicom is a leading international telecommunications and media company dedicated to emerging markets in Latin America and Africa. The company offers telecommunication services in fourteen countries to 60 million customers with the Tigo brand.
