Toshiba provides geothermal turbines and has a large amount of experience in installing and commissioning different sizes of turbines around the world. It offers a geothermal product line-up which includes ‘Geoportable’, a wellhead geothermal power generation system that generates 1-10 MW output. Under the terms of the new agreement with RentCo, the company will collaborate in the development of RentCo’s new energy leasing business involving the supply of Geoportable.
RentCo is a major financial leasing company based in Kenya and Sub Saharan Africa. It provides structured lease financing solutions either directly to its customers or through vendor finance partnership programmes for various business assets across all sectors.
Kenya lies to the west of Africa’s Great Rift Valley and is exploring its untapped geothermal resources in order to expand its power capacity. Toshiba’s Geoportable product is a compact power generation system that can be installed in a small well within a short period and has the ability to utilise wells under development effectively.
“I’m confident that this collaboration will support Africa’s plan to expand its renewable energy to drive the country’s economic development” said Toyoaki Fujita, Business Development Executive of Toshiba.
Toshiba has previously concluded MOUs with geothermal power development companies in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Djibouti, Uganda and Malawi in the geothermal power generation business as part of its commitment to assist the development of stable electricity supplies and the realisation of a low-carbon society.
