Under the $93.9 million (€65.8 million) deal Toshiba will supply two 83 MW class geothermal turbines, each with a generator and condenser, and deliver them in 2012. The deal is being carried out by its Australian subsidiary, Toshiba International Corporation Pty. Ltd. (TIC Australia).
The Te Mihi power plant is located in the Taupo Volcanic Zone in the North island of New Zealand. The project is Toshiba’s first geothermal power project in the country.
Design engineering and manufacturing for the project will be done at Toshiba’s Keihin Product Operations in Yokohama, Japan.
Toshiba Group is a leading supplier of geothermal power equipment on an installed capacity base. The company installed its first geothermal power equipment at Japan's Matsukawa power plant in 1966, and to date has provided equipment for 52 projects around the world, including North America, Southeast Asia and Iceland.
