GL RC provides the renewable energy sector with technical reference documents, standards, requirements and guidelines which assist manufacturers, developers, operators, banks and insurers to build, construct, operate, maintain and finance state-of-the-art wind farms. The new office will concentrate on offshore project certification and marine renewables in addition to onshore wind.
“The Glasgow office opening comes at a time, when in particular Scotland is making significant steps to become a world leader in renewables” explained Andreas Schroeter, Managing Director of GL Renewables Certification. “Scotland has unique opportunities in renewables, abundant natural resources and capabilities to generate clean energy. Scotland has already attracted large industry stakeholders with substantial research & development capacities as well as a number of major offshore manufacturing bases including blade and nacelles plants, port logistics and O&M services. Hence Glasgow is the ideal location for GL RC to service the wind and marine renewable energy certification business”
Certification is an important prerequisite for safe, reliable and highly productive facilities and relevant for owners, manufacturers, operators, supplier, investors, banks, and insurance companies alike. Technical guidelines cover a holistic spectrum of aspects such as load assumptions, safety and control systems, manuals, rotor blades, nacelle covers and spinners, machinery components, strength verification, structures and electrical installations. Apart from Glasgow, GL RC is active in Germany, North America, India and China. The certification body employs 185 engineers.
“I am very pleased that GL RC will support both the Scottish initiatives and also the UK push to realise the huge potential for renewables” added Andrew Garrad, Non-Executive Chairman of GL Renewables. “The GL Group has been in Glasgow for 25 years and has always found it to be a perfect centre for renewable energy activity, with plenty of clients, plenty of activity and plenty of support.”
