CEC Awards $30 Million to 100-Hour, Long-Duration Energy Storage Project

The California Energy Commission (CEC) today approved a $30 million grant to Form Energy to build a long-duration energy storage project that will continuously discharge to the grid for an unprecedented 100 hours. The 5 megawatt (MW) / 500 megawatt-hour iron-air battery storage project is the largest long-duration energy storage project to be built in California and the first in the state to use the lower-cost technology.

RENOVA, Inc. announced that the Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant, Tokushima City,  in which RENOVA has a stake, started operating on December 9. This power plant has a generation capacity of 74.8 MW and is fueled by wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS).

Wärtsilä to Provide Energy Storage System for Tampa Electric Company

Technology group Wärtsilä will supply a 15-MW)/ 30-MWh energy storage system to Tampa Electric Company (TECO), which will be co-located with a 25 MW solar plant in Dover, Florida. The project will ensure grid reliability as the utility scales up its portfolio of solar energy. The order was booked to Wärtsilä’s order intake in March 2023.
