Dirty energies pay the least tax… at least for the moment 
And, for once, it's not the ecologists who have to say so. According to the European Commission (EC), obsolete tax rules on the taxation of energy products in the European Union mean that “certain fossil fuels are taxed more favourably than cleaner competitors” since “products with lower energy content such as renewables carry a heavier tax burden compared to the fuels they are competing with”. In response, the EC has presented a proposal to overhaul the outdated rules. | New sections in REM
