According to figures published this month in the report "Long-term trend in global carbon dioxide emissions", prepared by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, there has been a steep increase in emissions despite reductions by industrialised countries with binding Kyoto targets.
