EurObserv’ER has published its latest estimates of the renewable energy share of gross final energy consumption for the European Union Member States in 2010. According to the barometer, in 2010 the renewable energy share accounted for 12.4 percent of overall gross final energy consumption, as against 11.5 percent in 2009, which amounts to a 0.9-point year-on-year increase compared to 2009.

Despite the UK government bringing in sharp cuts to the solar feed-in tariff at the end of 2011, Energy Secretary, Chris Huhne, revealed on 29 December that the coalition remains committed to renewables, and announced close to £2.5 billion of private funds have been earmarked for the sector.
Another black year for green shares
The 2011 stock exchange year once again disappointed the investors in green shares. The IWR, a renewable energy institute, reported in Muenster (Germany) that the RENIXX World (Renewable Energy Industrial Index) was quoted at 241.28 points at year end, 54.4 percent down on the previous year (529.63).
