Caterpillar to Launch Demonstration Project Using Hydrogen-Fueled CHP System

Caterpillar Inc. has announced a three-year project with Minnesota-based District Energy St. Paul to demonstrate a hydrogen-fueled combined heat and power (CHP) system. The project is supported and partially funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and backed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Companies Advance Nebraska Renewable Diesel Plant

Worley Ltd. has been awarded a contract by Heartwell Renewables LLC, a joint venture between The Love’s Family of Companies and Cargill, for a greenfield renewable fuels plant in Hastings, Nebraska. The new plant will produce an estimated 80 million gallons (around 303 million liters) of renewable diesel per year from feedstocks such as vegetable oils and tallow.

Southwest Airlines Invests in SAF Pilot Project Supported by DOE

Southwest Airlines Co. has announced an investment into SAFFiRE Renewables, LLC , a company formed by D3MAX, LLC, as part of a Department of Energy (DOE)-backed project to develop and produce scalable, sustainable aviation fuel. Funded with a DOE grant matched by Southwest's investment, SAFFiRE is expected to utilize technology developed by the DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory to convert corn stover, a widely available waste feedstock in the U.S., into renewable ethanol that then would be upgraded into SAF.
