A round-up of our most popular articles in May 2011 reveals a penchant among readers for news on bioenergy as the spring blooms arrived. The same month, the UK’s respected Committee on Climate Change said that a renewable energy share of around 30% by 2030 would be appropriate, with scope for a higher share (e.g. up to 45%).

The US’s leading clean energy youth empowerment organisation, Focus the Nation, has published an new interactive e-book entitled The WATT to complement and enhance its user's guide to energy in the 21st Century. The aim of the initiative is to help combat what the organisation described as “energy illiteracy”.

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's in-house science service. It has released a report entitled “Renewable energies in Africa: Current knowledge”, with contributions from Institute for Energy and Transport and the Institute for Environment and Sustainability, which screens Africa’s renewable energies potential.
