The European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) has assumed the role of referee (playing on the theme of the Euro 2012 football tournament) and held up a red card to Poland – one of the Euro 2012 hosts – for its lack of support for Europe’s Energy Roadmap 2050.

Ministers and senior officials participating in a side event at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development yesterday stressed the importance of international cooperation for mapping the world’s renewable energy resources. The side event was organised by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
