Bill That Would Have Gutted Tax Credits for Renewables, EVs, Stalls in Senate

A U.S. Senate bill that would have ended tax credits for renewable energy and electric vehicles is now in limbo after lawmakers on Capitol Hill came to a stalemate over amendments. The bill, S.2657, called the American Energy Innovation Act, is a package of 53 separate bills that, among other things, eliminate renewable energy tax incentives while replacing them with additional funding and tax credits for coal, nuclear power and natural gas.

FuelCell Energy’s first full-scale commercial SureSource hydrogen plant has received the go-ahead from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). The Commission recently clarified and reinforced that the use of directed biogas is permissible under the Bioenergy Market Adjusting Tariff (BioMAT) program, a feed-in tariff program which allows eligible plants to sell power to one of the state’s three investor-owned utilities at a fixed price, thus clearing the way for the continued development of the Toyota Port of Long Beach FuelCell Energy hydrogen project.

An online platform, MARENDATA, has been launched in collaboration by the SEA Wave and WESE projects to disseminate environmental monitoring data collected within the marine energy industry. Co-funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, both SEA Wave and WESE are undertaking bespoke environmental research campaigns to better understand the potential environmental effects associated with deploying and operating some of the world’s leading marine energy technologies.
