President Biden Announces Steps to Drive American Leadership Forward on Clean Cars

President Joe Biden is expected to announce Thursday that his administration is setting a new national goal for the sale of electric vehicles -- wanting half of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. by 2030 to be powered by electricity. The executive order Biden will sign during a ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House Thursday afternoon is also expected to lay out a plan that will include construction of a nationwide network of charging stations, financial incentives for consumers to buy electric cars and financial aid for carmakers and suppliers to retool factories for electric vehicles.

McDonald’s and eBay Partner with Lightsource bp to Power US Operations with Solar

McDonald’s Corporation and eBay Inc. have announced agreements with Lightsource bp to purchase power from what will be Louisiana’s largest solar project, located 30 miles northwest of Baton Rouge in Pointe Coupee Parish. The 345-MW Ventress Solar project will help McDonald’s and eBay meet their sustainability goals and advance their commitment to climate action, while growing Lightsource bp’s expanding footprint of solar assets across the Southeast. Once complete, the project will generate over 600,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy annually, equivalent to the average annual consumption of 59,000 US homes.

Nova Innovation Awarded £2 Million to Advance Tidal Turbine Manufacturing 

TIDAL energy leader Nova Innovation has been awarded a £2 million cash injection from the Scottish Government to advance tidal turbine manufacturing to a global level. The funding, delivered through Scottish Enterprise, is directed at Nova’s VOLT (VOlume Manufacturing and Logistics for Tidal Energy) project that will develop the first European assembly line to mass manufacture tidal turbines, and trial innovative techniques and tools to ship, deploy and monitor turbines around the world – meeting the challenge of the climate emergency.

Calpine and GE Renewable Energy Complete Storage Project in California

Calpine and GE Renewable Energy Complete Storage Project in California

Calpine and GE Renewable Energy have completed the Santa Ana Storage Project (SASP) in Southern California. The project contains a 20MW/80MWh (4hr) standalone battery energy storage system using GE’s Reservoir energy storage technology. The system, now in commercial operation, is supported by a 20-year Resource Adequacy Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The project will be able to provide energy to up to 12,000 households during peak events, and/or 24,000 households during normal load conditions.
