Barocal Secures £1.3m Funding to Explore Heating Systems

Zero-carbon refrigeration pioneer Barocal has secured a £1.3 million investment to accelerate commercialization of its novel technology designed to dramatically cut global CO₂ emissions. As the technology also works in heating applications, the University of Cambridge spin-out now plans to explore the potential of its breakthrough for domestic and commercial heating systems—to provide a cost-effective, efficient alternative to expensive air source heat pumps.

Eurocell building Gigafactory to supply ‘production ready’ batteries in 12 months

Anglo-Korean next-generation battery company Eurocell is set to build its first European Gigafactory, producing proven ‘production ready’ technologies in just 12 months, far faster than other Gigafactories. Eurocell has a proven battery product which is ready for scaled-up manufacturing. With an initial £600 million investment planned over two phases, it intends to supply European energy storage, automotive, and e-mobility applications. Full capacity will be reached as early as 2025.

The U.S. Department of Energy will provide $25 million in funding to support increased research, development, and demonstration of technologies that harness wave power to create electricity. The funding supports eight projects that will make up the first round of open-water testing at the PacWave South test site off the Oregon coast. These awards will strengthen wave energy technologies, accelerating their commercial viability and deploy them at scale.
