Pivotal Moment for NnG as First Wind Turbine Installed

The most momentous milestone yet in the development of the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm has been reached with the installation of its first wind turbine at sea. The turbine, with a tip height of over 200 meters was installed by Siemens Gamesa from the specialist jack-up wind turbine construction vessel, the Blue Tern, which initially placed the 87.5 meter turbine tower on its pre-installed steel jacket.

Maine legislation brings floating offshore wind to US East Coast

The Maine Legislature has passed a bill advancing the state’s offshore wind industry, seeking to pursue a goal of 100 percent clean energy by 2024. Governor Janet Mills is now expected to sign the bill into law, calling for the state to procure 3 GW of offshore wind generation by  2040. That is enough to power 900,000 homes and supply half of the state’s total electricity demand.
