Solar was Half of US Capacity Additions in 2023

A review by the SUN DAY Campaign of data newly-released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) reveals that solar provided half of the U.S. generating capacity added in 2023 with almost 5,000 megawatts (MW) coming on line in December alone.

Acciona Energía to build new solar plant in India

Acciona Energía has announced it will build a new 412 MWp solar PV plant in the state of Rajasthan, India, with commissioning planned by 2025. The solar farm will consist of around 750,000 photovoltaic modules of 545Wp each. It will produce around 800 GWh of green electricity per year, enough to power 840,000 households, and will avoid the emission of 724,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.

Amazon and Vena Energy Announce 125 MW Solar Project in Queensland

Amazon and Vena Energy have announced the commercial operation of a new 125-megawatt (MW) renewable energy project in Woleebee, Queensland. Consisting of over 250,000 solar photovoltaic panels, the Amazon Solar Project Australia – Wandoan is expected to generate enough renewable energy to power more than 60,000 Australian homes each year.

REC Silicon to shut down its polysilicon business in Butte, Montana

REC Silicon has announced that its subsidiary, REC Advanced Silicon Materials LLC, is to shut down its polysilicon production capacity at Butte, Montana facility, primarily due to the regional structural imbalance in supply and demand for electricity.

MIM and PGGM announce major solar project at Intersect Office Campus in California

MetLife Investment Management (MIM) has signed an agreement with DSD Renewables to install a 2.2-megawatt solar project and 510 kWh Battery Energy Storage System at Intersect, on behalf of its owners PGGM and MetLife.

Wärtsilä to Deliver one of Scotland’s Largest Energy Storage Systems to Zenobē 

Technology group Wärtsilä will supply a 300-MW / 600-MWh energy storage system under an Engineered Equipment Delivery contract to Zenobē, an electric vehicle fleet and battery storage specialist, in Kilmarnock, Scotland. This is the second energy storage system Wärtsilä is delivering to Zenobē, and it will be one of the largest in Scotland to date. It will be the first facility built with Wärtsilä’s Quantum High Energy.
