Urueña told Europa Press that: “This week, we have held talks about this matter with an Asturian engineering firm with a view to establishing a collaboration agreement, as there are some interesting companies in Asturias working on compact and highly flexible designs that could have a great future”. He added that such agreements “could be reached in the near future”.
Urueña made these statements to the media shortly before giving a presentation for the “Achieving competitive energy through the energy mix” course forming part of the La Granda programme organised by the Fundación Escuela Asturiana de Estudios Hispánicos. He highlighted that although Gamesa’s primary line of business is wind power, the group is open to exploring new areas, although he did recognise that, “it is not easy to move to another form of energy generation and change line of business over night”.
Gamesa’s Strategy and Development Director explained that energy generated from the power of waves, tides and ocean currents, “is still not profitable and is still at a research stage”; emphasising that wind power remains the “most effective” source of renewable energy in terms of production costs. He also referred to developments in solar energy which he believes, “will play a very important role” in the energy mix in the future.
