As the technology advances, GL RC said in a written statement, it is providing its expertise to designers, manufacturers, investors and insurers who are involved in the evaluation of engineering integrity and safety of ocean energy systems.
In his new role, Trecksel will be responsible for managing and further developing GL RC's activities in the wave and tidal industry.
"Holger Trecksel's broad experience in the marine industry is valuable for helping our customers in dealing with certification projects of wave and tidal devices," said Mike Woebbeking, Head of Certification Body GL RC.
"Trecksel holds a degree in naval architecture and has over ten years' experience in professional engineering roles. He has extensive sales and project management know-how, having worked for a major engineering company on propeller technology," he added.
The company said certification of tidal turbines is one of the key development areas for the tidal industry in the future.
GL RC carries out assessments, verifications and certifications for wave and tidal energy devices on the basis of its own Guidelines for the Certification of Ocean Energy Converters as well as international standards.
