The three new drilling targets which have been identified in an independent geological study in Utah could yield between 80 to 165 MW of power. This is the latest in a string of headlines the company has made in recent months, putting it at the forefront of geothermal developments in the United States.
Again the western portion of the United States is playing home to potentially big find. The power which these three new targets could yield may be enough to power 100,000 homes. Geologists have identified the sites using a variety of methods including satellite imaging. Raser Technologies would deploy its binary cycle technology which uses hot fluids pumped to the surface to combine into a heat exchanger. Which in turn vaporizes a working fluid then used to power a turbine.
The CEO of Raser Technologies Brent Cook went on the record as saying; “The geothermal resources at these sites appear to have temperatures and other characteristics that fit very nicely into our strategy to build clean, renewable electric power plants using advanced binary cycle technology. The geologists have validated our beliefs about these Southern Utah sites. We look forward to developing these sites as part of our goal to initiate the development of approximately 100 megawatts of power generating capacity per year for the first three years and 150 megawatts per year thereafter.”
