BASF’s renewable energy commitment is expected to reduce its CO2 emissions footprint by approximately 1,520 tonnes per year, equivalent to taking nearly 325 cars off the road. The company’s agreement with Bullfrog Power will enable its corporate HQ and production facilities in Ontario, Alberta, Quebec and Saskatchewan to operate via an arrangement in which 100 percent renewable electricity is put onto the grid to match the amount of conventional electricity consumed by BASF. The renewable electricity will be generated by Bullfrog Power’s wind and low-impact hydro power facilities.
“Through the partnership with Bullfrog Power, BASF is reducing its environmental impact and supporting an innovative approach to growing Canada’s renewable energy industry” said Marcelo Lu, President of BASF Canada.
Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power, added that the partnership is a signifier that manufacturers in the supply chain are increasingly seeing energy as a key input when making their products more sustainable and that BASF is taking a proactive approach to addressing climate change by proactively committing to renewable electricity at its Canadian sites.
Green energy commitments from Canadian homes and businesses, including BASF, are enabling Bullfrog Power to provide critical financing to support the development of new, community-based green energy projects across the country. The company said it has supported more than 130 such community projects in Canada thus far.
