This fourth phase, a 200MW concentrated solar power plant, was announced last summer as DEWA looks to not only diversify its energy mix to include more renewable sources, but also to use different technologies. The plant is expected to be in operation by April of 2021.
“Our achievements support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide 7 percent of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2020, 25 percent by 2030, and 75 percent by 2050.
The UAE’s focus on renewable energy generation has led to a drop in prices worldwide and has lowered the price of solar and wind power bids in Europe and the Middle East," stated Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD&CEO of DEWA.
The utility will now review the bid submissions to determine the project winner, a process that usually takes approximately one month.
