Álvarez Zenteno encouraged Spanish companies during his speech at the New Energy Forum to contribute their experience in the development of renewable energy in Chile, where he said, there is "huge room" for investment. The energy minister said that Chile has "fabulous alternatives" for renewable energy, but stressed that as well as investment, "knowledge" is absolutely fundamental, and that is where Spain can play the most important role.
According to Correo del Foro, the New Energy Forum’s e-newsletter, Álvarez Zenteno highlighted that "there are considerable opportunities” to procure finance for clean energy projects in Chile “since Chilean groups from different economic sectors are willing to invest in the renewable energy sector”. The head of the Chilean Energy Ministry said it is necessary to ramp up investments in energy to "avoid risks and power cuts" and "to strengthen supply security".
The New Energy Forum is defined as "a specialist forum contributing to the necessary debate on political and corporate energy strategy in Spain and internationally". The New Energy Forum is sponsored by Enresa, a state-run nuclear waste handling company; the Spanish Association of the Electrical Industry (Unesa); and Ernst & Young, which is defined as "a global leader in assurance, tax, transaction and advisory services".
