Viking Line will expand its cooperation with Climeon following a successful test period. As a first step all new ships will include Climeon Ocean in their design phase. Climeon Ocean is a heat power solution that utilises waste heat from exhaust gases and engine cooling water and converts it into 100 percent clean electricity. Using this system, each ship can save up to 750 tons of carbon dioxide emissions from fuel, equivalent to more than 6,000 return flights from Stockholm to Paris.
Climeon Ocean has been tested aboard the vessel Viking Grace, during which it delivered even higher environmental and energy savings than expected. The vessel was already the world’s most environmentally friendly passenger ferry, a capability that improved significantly with the installation of Climeon Ocean.
“As a first step, Climeon Ocean will be deployed in the design for new ships” said Kari Granberg, Head of Projects at Viking Line. “In addition, we are evaluating to retrofit existing ships and to further increase the capacity at Viking Grace. Deploying the Climeon Ocean systems is one way for us to show that our high environmental ambition is far more than words.”
Analysts Frost & Sullivan have described Climeon Ocean as “revolutionary”, delivering “exceptional performance”. They concluded that the system was the world’s best solution in its particular category and fully expect it to take off in the Marine Industry.
