The facility, featuring an array of eco-friendly and renewable energy-centred measures, was built-to-suit for CEVA Logistics, the global supply chain management company.
The project, which took eight months to complete, incorporates solar-powered lighting, the use of recycled and locally sourced materials and state-of-the-art warehouse lighting, complete with motion detectors and dimming controls; a system that uses at least 20 percent less energy than normal lighting.
The suite of eco-initiatives not only set a new standard for the region, according to the companies, it also helped the project achieve a LEED Silver rating.
“The new CEVA facility is a significant achievement that exemplifies the top of the range warehousing facilities that will be the future of logistics infrastructure in the region,” said Salma Ali Saif bin Hareb, CEO of Economic Zones World. “Such warehouses are expertly designed and are build-to-suit exact customer requirements; sustainable; as well as strategically located.
“We remain committed to providing developments that facilitate the long-term business sustainability of our clients. This project, further, reaffirms our social responsibility and commitment to the environment, which form an integral part of our overall business strategy,” she said.
The facility consists two units: one with 35,000 square metres of warehouse and 500 square metres of office space and the second with 26,000 square metres of warehouse and 400 square metres of office space.
The successful construction of the scheme was carried out by a newly formed joint venture between ECC LLC and McLaren Construction.
