In a written statement, IRENA said the meeting provides a timely opportunity to discuss long-term solutions to world energy problems from the specific perspective of islands, including small island developing states in the Pacific, Caribbean, and Indian Ocean, and Mediterranean islands in the European Union.
Summit speakers and panelists will include IRENA Director-General Adnan Z. Amin, high-level government officials, and representatives of policy institutes and the private sector.
IRENA, an intergovernmental organization, seeks to accelerate the deployment of all forms of renewable energy and facilitate the global transition to a sustainable energy future.
The summit will examine island energy solutions in the context of the UN Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative and the outcome of the Rio+20 Conference.
