Mark Newton, partner and head of renewable energy at chartered surveyors Fisher German, has helped RBS/NatWest bank to secure the Skills Development Award at the Renewable Energy Association (REA) annual awards ceremony. Mr Newton has, over the past two years, used his extensive experience within the sector to train 370 NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) managers to secure industry accreditation in the renewable energy sector.
The bank beat competition from four other leading industry figures to win the award which is presented to the company or organisation which has excelled in improving the skills base within the industry. Fisher German was chosen to deliver the training by Ian Burrow, head of Agriculture and Renewables at RBS/NatWest, who considered the firm to be the leading Chartered Surveyors within the renewables sector. Another key factor was Fisher German’s established relationship with the National Farmers Union (NFU) resulting from the company’s provision of a dedicated renewable energy advice line for farmers, the Farm Energy Service.
“I was delighted to see NatWest secure this award as a result of all the hard its staff has put in over the past two years” Mark Newton said. “The organisation really committed to ensuring its staff obtained the highest level of knowledge in relation to the renewables sector. This will enable it to provide the highest quality advice to its customers for renewables lending and to make properly informed financial decisions. Fisher German looks forward to continuing to advise NatWest and other major financial institutions as well as other major players in the world of renewable energy and carrying out due diligence reports on their renewables lending.”
Fisher German has 14 offices in England and is renowned for its work in the sector. Ian Burrow, head of agriculture and renewable energy at RBS, expressed his thanks to Mr Newton for the significant role he played in the banks success.
“The knowledge that Mark imparted over a number of training courses to our mangers has been fundamental to them understanding the key issues around wind turbines and solar PV” Mr Burrow added. “This has allowed them to engage in meaningful discussions with customers considering investing in these technologies.”
