The announcement represents the continuation of a long-standing partnership, with Marks & Clerk having been involved in sponsoring Cleantech Innovate since 2012. The annual event will take place on 20th March 2018 at the Royal Institution in London’s Mayfair. It offers 36 of the most promising entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their game-changing, low-carbon innovations to over 350 active funders, corporates, support agencies and the media.
Marks & Clerk has been working with SMEs and start-ups throughout its 130-year history. As part of its partnership, the company will be offering event finalists the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win high-quality patent drafts at a much reduced cost. Two lucky winners will receive strategic advice and the opportunity to get a patent application on file before the showcase takes place on 20th March.
“We’re delighted to have Marks & Clerk back on board as a partner for Cleantech Innovate" said Charlotte Morton, Chief Executive of We Are Orchard, who are organising the event. "Intellectual property services are key to nurturing and commercialising innovative ideas, and Cleantech Innovate is all about matching the most exciting low-carbon innovations with eagle-eyed investors looking for the next big thing in the growing cleantech market.”
Thomas Prock, UK, German, and European Patent Attorney at Marks & Clerk, added that building sustainable technology and energy systems is the great technical challenge of our time and that the momentum behind the cleantech sector continues to grow. Intellectual property is a key part of the jigsaw for any emerging industry. By running its patent-drafting prize draw alongside the Cleantech Innovate showcase Marks & Clerk hopes to give the most promising finalists the ability to secure their IP where otherwise this might have been difficult. In an increasingly tech-centric economy, a company’s IP represents a significant portion of its value, and the company is hoping to give the winning businesses a real boost in securing this value.
