In an extraordinary hour-long session that Trump had actually cancelled earlier in the day, the president-elect also said he's keeping an open mind about whether to pull the United States out of a multinational agreement on climate change.
These were just two of several conciliatory statements made by Trump on Tuesday. He also dropped a campaign promise to jail Hillary Clinton, his Democratic opponent in the race for the White House, and also expressed some doubt about the value of torture in the war against terrorism.
Trump told reports for the newspaper that "clean air is vitally important" and that when it comes to the connection between human activity and climate change, he's sure there's "Some."
"It depends on how much," he said.
On climate change, Trump refused to repeat his promise to abandon the international climate accord reached last year in Paris, saying that, “I’m looking at it very closely.”
But he said “I have an open mind to it” and that clean air and “crystal clear water” were very important.
