The report, which cites an official from Iraq's Ministry of Electricity, says the move is an attempt by the government to address a 5,200 MW shortfall in the country's power production, the root cause of daily blackouts.
At present power demand throughout Iraq is about 14,000 MW, while the country produces only 8,800.
The ministry has already allocated $200 million in next year's budget to add about 50 MW of renewable power to the country's grid.
The official, Laith al-Mamury, who leads the ministry's planning department, said Baghdad has sent invitations to more than two dozen "leading manufacturers" and builders of wind and solar projects.
Reuters says three of those companies are Japan's Toyota Tsusho Corp, Swiss engineering group ABB and Egypt's Orascom Construction.
