The data center is projected to initially draw in 70MW of power however the company expects that within the decade it will have enough computer servers to draw on 1,000MW.
According to the company’s website, Kolos will operate at a 60% reduction in energy costs, making it the most competitive data center in the world. The cool, stable climate of northern Norway, and the site’s proximity to water, will provide natural cooling for the center's servers.
The 6.46 million sqf data center is expected create 2,000 to 3,000 new jobs and support 10,000 to 15,000 existing jobs in the community.
Kolos signed the land-purchase contract at a meeting with Ballangen residents and officials on March 30.
