The soccer World Cup to become a green milestone

Germany's upcoming soccer World Cup will become an ecological milestone due to the numerous measures tackling greenhouse emissions to be implemented. The project, named Green Goal, also aims to cut waste and promote public transportation. 100,000 tonnes of CO2, coming from transportation, construction, stadium maintenance related to the World Cup and event fans, are expected to be prevented with the Green Goal. For it, forests will be planted, the stadiums watering systems will use rain water and gentlement toilets will be water-free.

Engineers have also been working on the stadiums' electricity and heat needs. As concernds lighting, they have implemented a portfolio of measures ranging from low-consumption lamps to stair, parking and playing field movement sensors.

Besides, the one hundred air conditioning equipments available will be controlled individually and air quality will be monitored using purification systems that enter into operation only when fresh air is required.

Also, fans will be able to use 24-hour free public transportation by simply showing their tickets, thus reducing private car utilization rates.
