The company has signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) in respect of the two projects, a 500 MW wind project and a 600 MW solar project, which are to be developed in cooperation with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL).
Gujarat has become the energy hub of India in response to Prime Minister Modiji’s vision for the country. Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel has recently been encouraging both national and global investors to invest in the state.
“We are deeply honored to the state of Gujarat for once again placing their trust in us” said Mr Vineet Mittal, Vice Chairman of Welspin Renewables. “Welspun Renewables started its journey with Gujarat by commissioning its first clean energy project in Anjar. Gujarat has always been our natural choice in building projects not just for conducive climatic conditions but because of its investor friendly environment.”
Welspun Renewables has commissioned a number of mega solar capacity projects so far and is aggressively working to build its wind energy portfolio. It is hoping to develop power projects across India and has existing projects in areas of the country benefitting from high solar radiance, such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Punjab.
