25.4% Module Efficiency: LONGi Sets New World Record

LONGi Green Energy Technology achieved a new efficiency world record for crystalline silicon modules: 25.4%. The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Germany has officially certified the record for the module, which is based on LONGi's independently developed HPBC 2.0 back contact solar cells.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory has updated its Champion Photovoltaic Module Efficiency Chart according to the new results.

This marks the first time that a Chinese solar technology company has set the world record since its recordings in 1988. Therefore, LONGi's record will be included in the international authoritative photovoltaic record list "Martin Green Module Efficiency World Historical Record List" and the NREL record list.

Reaching this record efficiency is a significant leap. It is breaking the 25% benchmark world record of Martin Green and NREL as well as passing the 24.9% IBC module efficiency created by Maxeon in January this year.

Since Sunpower set a module efficiency record of 20.3% in 2007 based on IBC technology, the world record has been broken eight consecutive times with XBC technology. With its efficient structure and excellent compatibility, it has been almost monopolizing the list of crystalline silicon module efficiency records, demonstrating the unparalleled technological leadership of BC technology.

LONGi has followed the path of back contact technology for years now, launching its first iteration as the self-developed HPBC 1.0 in 2022. The new generation HPBC 2.0 will enter the market in 2025. This is also a testament to LONGi's belief that back- contact technology is the solar technology of the future.

The achievement of the new world record for the efficiency of crystalline silicon solar modules is a milestone in the history of the global photovoltaic industry. This contributes not only to the further development of the photovoltaic industry, but also to the global energy transition and the realization of carbon neutrality goals.

In the past three years LONGi has broken the cell efficiency record 18 times in a row. Today, the company holds two cell efficiency world records, 34.6% for crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells, and 27.30% for crystalline silicon Heterojunction Back Contact (HBC) solar cells.

Now for the first time, LONGi is also holding a module efficiency world record.
