After five days of innovations, news and business meetings, this year's 27th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC) closed its doors on Friday, 28 September 2012, at the Messe Frankfurt fairground. Over the course of the conference, 4024 delegates from 76 countries attended a total of 1600 scientific and technical presentations covering the entire scope of PV technologies. During the four exhibition days, 656 international exhibitors from all along the PV value chain presented the latest products and services which were eagerly examined by 31,500 PV professionals from 102 countries.
“Frankfurt has been an invaluable platform to discuss the role photovoltaic solar energy will play to realise the decarbonisation of our energy supply” said Technical Programme Chairman Dr Arnulf Jäger-Waldau of the European Commission DG Joint Research Centre. “The international PV community has made this the most inspiring and influential platform we have, to shape our future energy mix based on sound science.”
The conference presented a comprehensive programme of twelve Parallel Events with 150 additional contributions. These events complement the EU PVSEC Conference Programme and the PV Industry Exhibition providing a deep insight into specific topics along the most recent technology, market and business trends.
“Photovoltaic solar energy is here to stay but is now at a tipping point” said Conference General Chairman Dr. Stefan Nowak, the Chairman of the International Energy Agency Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (IEA PVPS) during the conference closing ceremony. “Electricity business leaders, investors, innovators, regulators and especially policy-makers must join forces and push ahead with an inevitable paradigm shift in the way electricity is produced, sold, transported and distributed”
Dr. Winfried Hoffmann, President EPIA - European Photovoltaic Industry Association, received the European Becquerel Prize which is awarded every year to an individual for outstanding merits in Photovoltaics. The prize was award to Dr Hoffmann in a ceremony during the EU PVSEC opening for his pioneering work in the industrialisation of photovoltaic technologies. Meanwhile, the Scientific Committee selected six presentations for the EU PVSEC Student Awards 2012 which celebrates the most remarkable and outstanding research work by students in the field of PV.
