The project is valued at $1.7 billion, and marks Alex Solar's entry into the city and surrounding province, which is known for its abundant sunshine. The contract was signed 3 May.
Zhang Lianwen, chairman of Alex Solar, said his company "is happy to spearhead the growth in the city of Jinchang, utilising science and technology to improve the quality of life for all people domestically and abroad."
Zhang Lingping, Municipal Party Committee Secretary, added, "This project happens just in time to support China’s 12th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development focusing on the energy, technology and health care sectors."
"Jinchang City is rich in natural resources and its sizable territory provides a platform for developing solar plants employing unique grid architecture," he said.
The company will build solar power stations in the western slope of Jinchang City and the new factory will be developed in the area identified as the new Economic and Technological Development Zone which has a scale of 300 MW alone.
