Could someone steal your solar panels?

Spain arrested some Moroccans accused of stealing $2.1 million in solar PV panels. Apparently, the panels would be later sent to Africa, where they would be sold. It seems that surveillance systems are starting to pay off.
The group of thieves stole hundreds of solar photovoltaic panels. The Spanish Police said that the panels would be sent to Africa for sale there.
The investigation started half a year ago in Palencia (Castilla y León). In the last months the thieves have even used violence to steal the panels. Unfortunately, some members of the gang were not caught and no international warrants have been issued.
More and more, security seems to be an issue for solar PV parks, where expensive equipment is used. The trend to build bigger facilities were active surveillance can be afforded seems to be avoiding a lot of trouble, still plant operators should watch out as some of the thieves are still around...
