CPV sector to ponder “big questions” at CPV USA 2012

Big questions facing the concentrated photovoltaic industry (CPV) are set to be addressed by leading system developers at CPV USA 2012 (15-16 October, San Jose) during a year in which the sector has continued to struggle to obtain bank financing and compete on a level playing field with conventional solar photovoltaics.
CPV sector to ponder “big questions” at CPV USA 2012

2012 has been marked by industry progress through difficult times, as CPV companies diversify and expand their reach into high DNI markets.  A notable example, French CPV giant Soitec, have made progress on a landmark project in South Africa, while Mexico, Chile and China are other markets that have seen recent CPV activity.

However, the industry continues to be dominated by cost issues, as intensive price pressure from traditional PV ceases to abate.  Other challenges, such as reliability, commercialization and bankability are still present in order for CPV to take a prominent position in the energy mix.

To answer these questions and more, PV Insider has created a plenary panel of experts to open CPV USA 2012.  Attendees will be able to hear from the technology leaders on how the industry intends to tackle the challenges and make the most of new opportunities.

The panel will examine how the industry has progressed during PV price pressure, where and how CPV can carve out its advantages in the energy mix and some thoughts on the future prospects for the technology.

Matt Carr, Events Director, confirmed that Vahan Garboushian (CTO & Founder, Amonix), Nancy Hartsoch (VP Marketing and Business Development, SolFocus), Clark Crawford (Vice President - Sales & Business Development - Solar Energy Business Unit, Soitec), Pedro Banda (PV Business Development Director, Abengoa Solar), Vicente Díaz, (HCPV Director, HCPV Business Unit, Isofoton) and Dan Shugar (CEO, Solaria Corporation) will participate in this pioneering discussion that will set the agenda for the conference.
