The unanimous decision came at the organization's annual general meeting.
The European solar market has been rapidly developing and the nature of both the sector and the organisation has fundamentally changed from where both were 30 years ago, when EPIA were founded, the group said in a written statement.
In light of this evolution, the rebranding is seen as a natural progression in the life of the organization.
"Representing the full solar power value chain, and believing in the need for transparency and accessibility, our members recognised that SolarPower Europe truly reflects the nature of our association," the group said.
The new brand name reflects three clear aspects of who the organization's membership are today:
"We will continue to work on promoting solar power in Europe, and the world, and will continue to actively engage in all aspects of the framework that supports solar power to grow in Europe. We have enjoyed working with you and will continue to do so as SolarPower Europe, the group said.
