The first project will be carried out in La Matanza (Peru) and will involve refurbishing a water well and equipping it with a 1.225 kWp solar-powered water pump to facilitate access to drinking water to 60 households.
Other projects in the Solar Energy Solidarity programme by Proinso are in Lagunas (Peru), Kulunde and La Kounte (Togo), and in Porto-Novo (Benin) and will benefit a total of 19,000 people. Proinso will work with local partners and NGOs to monitor the installations after they have been completed
The second project in Peru will see Proinso installing a 3.250 kWp solar array to extend the number of hours of electricity supply available to a local hospital and two schools. The project will be conducted in collaboration with the Corazonistas Foundation and the charity Caritas Yurimaguas and will benefit 7,000 people as well as 1,900 pupils at the schools.
Proinso will also donate PV equipment for projects in Togo in West Africa. The first will see the installation of 1.320 kWp arrays providing power to six classrooms and school offices, and is expected to benefit around 9,200 individuals. The second project is located in La Kounte and will involve drilling a new water well and installing a raised deposit for the water, which will be pumped to the surface using a 1.320 kWp PV array.
Elsewhere in West Africa, Porinso has identified a project in Porto-Novo (Benin) involving the installation of an off-grid 1.300 kWp array at a drop-in centre for street children. The project at the “El Foyer” centre will be conducted in conjunction with the NGO Jóvenes y Desarrollo, and will consist of installing a PV array on one of the centre’s terraces, which will include an energy storage system. This array will provide power to 250 people.
