According to Patali Champika Ranawaka, Sri Lanka's Minister of Power and Energy, the islands of Delft, Nainathivu (Nagadeepa), Analathivu and Elivathivu islands will start receive solar and wind power in late 2013.
The projects will supplement power the islands currently receive from thermal sources.
Initial work on these power projects has already commenced and will be completed by the end of next year. The power supply will benefit over 3,500 families in these islands.
According to published reports, the government of Korea will provide financial and technical assistance for the projects.
