The new facility will be built on approximately 870 acres of land located in the Air Force Base’s buffer zone. It will include more than 500,000 solar panels.

Georgia Power will handle the planning, engineering and design for the project and will conduct a competitive bid process to select a construction contractor. Construction is expected to begin no earlier than 2018. The company plans to put the plant online by the end of 2019.

Georgia Power currently owns and operates 120 MW of large-scale solar facilities now online at military bases throughout Georgia. They are currently building a 31 MW solar facility at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany. The company plans  to add up to 1600 MW of renewable energy through 2021.
