The facilities which were completed recently are now awaiting final grid connection. Both sites are located in the province of Brindisi, Puglia, and have a combined capacity of approximately 2 MW.
Langley assisted BP Solar, the EPC company in charge of the project, in the construction of the facilities by providing site management services. “We are very satisfied for having gained this experience in Italy” said Mr Riccardo Sorichetti, Country Manager of Langley Rinnovabili. “We are very active in the Italian market providing technical services for a number of customers, and we hope to keep on building up our track record in such an interesting market” he added.
Langley Rinnovabili is a Milan-based company that is solely-owned by its Spanish parent company, Langley Renovables. Langley has an overall experience of over 40 MW in all phases of the solar PV development chain. The company currently offers the following services: project analysis, construction supervision, management of operating solar plants, consultancy, audit, engineering design, and development of solar PV projects.
PV Diagnosis
Besides the services mentioned above, Langley recently developed a new service in partnership with Altermia Asesores called PV Diagnosis, which aims to provide a thorough knowledge of the characteristics, status, productivity and performance of a PV system in order to verify how it has been completed and the degree of contract compliance, and optimise the installation’s productivity potential and lifetime.
With solar energy fetching in excess of 44 cents per kilowatt hour (premium and pool price of electricity) and high radiation levels, Italy probably has the highest market potential in Europe today. Almost a year and a half after arriving in Italy, Langley reports that it has settled very well in the country and therefore, recently had to move into new offices in Milan after expanding its technical team due to growing demand for the services it provides in the renewables market in the country.
“In recent years, the Italian market has experienced a considerable degree of activity due to the Nuevo Conto Energía decree, which has arrived after several less stable and effective regulatory frameworks,” explains Antonio Carrión, Founding Partner of Langley Renovables. “The existence of legislation establishing a solar premium, the potential solar resource, and the fact that the Spanish market is undergoing a temporary slowdown, positioned Italy as the most interesting photovoltaic market in Europe in 2009.”
In light of this, Carrión explains that Langley will continue to work hard to further penetrate the Italian market during 2010, although it is also looking to new markets. “We plan to increase our activity in France by means of a solid structure that allows us to provide the same service in this market in terms of commitment, quality and success as in Spain and Italy,” he says, revealing that “Additionally, we are involved in various projects in other countries like Israel and India, and are beginning to ‘understand and assimilate' the American market, where medium-term potential is undeniable”.
