The direct contract partner of Masdar PV is Belectric, one of the world's largest PV system integration companies and a subsidiary of Beck Energy GmbH in Kolitzheim. The first construction phase of the ground-mounted solar park will be completed in 2010. The investor is a leading principal for PV systems in India with an expansive project pipeline for large-scale power systems.
"All necessary on-site preparations have been completed and we can start construction", explained Belectric Managing Director Bernhard Beck. "We have decided to collaborate with Masdar PV because their solar modules are particularly well suited to the local conditions." Masdar's solar modules provide especially high energy yields under diffuse lighting conditions and high ambient temperatures. They are therefore especially suitable for use in arid zones and desert areas such as the Indian subcontinent, the Arabian Peninsula or North Africa. The 5 MW plant has a total surface area of approx. 150.000 square metres and will later supply electricity for around 13,000 households.
"We are excited that we have managed to cooperate with Belectric for this project. We have found a very capable partner who will build a turnkey power station. This cooperation clearly shows that it was right to focus the activities of Masdar PV, one of the business divisions of Masdar Power, on the construction of large-scale industrial roof- and ground-mounted solar power plants ", says Frank Wouters, Managing Director of Masdar PV and Masdar Power. "This project positions us in one of the most promising solar markets of the future", he continues. The cooperation with Beck Energy and Belectric might soon bear more fruit - other large-scale projects are already being planned.
Masdar PV GmbH is a leading manufacturer of innovative thin-film photovoltaic products and solutions. The medium term goal of the company is to become one of the three largest manufacturers in this PV segment. The company, belonging to the Masdar Power division, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Masdar, Abu Dhabi's diverse initiative for future energy sources that was initiated and is owned by Mubadala Development Company. This is a comprehensive, forward-looking investment by the Emirate, with the aim of developing and commercialising innovative technology in the renewable and sustainable energy sector.
Belectric Inc. wants to use its planning and construction abilities to achieve grid parity for environmentally-friendly photovoltaic solutions. With its subsidiaries such as Beck Energy (Germany) Belectric have already constructed over 85 large-scale PV systems in Europe. Many of them are among the world's largest thin-film solar power plants. Strategic partnerships with leading solar module manufacturers and producers of photovoltaic system components as well as in-house project design allow continual cost reductions for the construction of the systems.
