Canberra’s solar highway – which stretches from Majura Parkway in Canberra’s north to the Monaro Highway in the south – now features four solar farms.
The Mugga Lane Park is owned by the Maoneng Group, described on their website as an “Australian Chinese developer, long term owner and operator of quality Solar PV assets.” The company will receive $178 for each WMh of electricity it produces, to a maximum of 24,600 MWhs a year.
The Mugga Lane location is the third solar farm funded by the ACT government and brings the territory to 35% renewable energy. The funding for the solar farms is in addition to the funding for five wind farms. The ACT has set a target for 100% renewable energy by 2020.
ACT Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury, said the ACT will continue to lead the nation on renewable energy and climate change mitigation. He is quoted in a story on psnews.com.au, stating, ““The current national back-pedalling of Australia’s climate change policies and retreat to coal must not be allowed to endanger the progress of cities, States and Territories, like the ACT, which are leading the way in climate change action.”
