The new bill, which is to be approved by the Greek parliament by the end of March, lifts an existing ban on solar PV systems implemented in August 2012. It also introduces permanent retroactive cuts of Feed-in Tariffs (FiTS) for operating PV systems.
Up to 250MWp of new PV systems will be eligible for FiTS every year over the period 2014-2020. A new net-metering scheme will compensate added capacity which is expected to reach 2GWp. Average permanent retroactive cuts of 30 percent will be levied on existing FiTS for currently operating PV plants and the duration of relevant plants will be extended by 5 years during which the systems will be compensated with electricity market prices or with 80 euros per megawatt hour.
The Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Companies (HELAPCO) has welcomed the lifting of the ban on new PV systems and foresees a more stable environment for PV investments in Greece after the introduction of the new measures.
