New online application for comparing photovoltaic solar power

The multinational photovoltaic (PV) component distributor, Proinso, has launched a new application on its website called "Solar PV Tracker”, which allows the comparative calculation of solar energy production anywhere in the world.

Solar PV Tracker is free of charge and accessible both in English and Spanish. It can be used to carry out calculations of PV energy production generated in kWh, based on the kWp of the installation and using both single and dual -axis trackers, anywhere in the world.

“Proino’s aim in developing this application is to basically resolve any possible doubts our existing and potential customers may have. This application can be used to take a ‘snapshot’ of the projects our customers have in mind, the then enable us to supply the components required to meet the individual needs of each project,” explains Gustavo Carrero, Proinso’s Marketing Director.

Solar PV Tracker operates in five easy steps. First, the user selects a country and city or an exact location on the map anywhere in the world. The application then provides solar radiation data measured in kWh/square metre (both daily and annually) on a horizontal plane at zero degrees. This data is based on various databases, both private and public, including one managed by the United Nations Organisation.

Performance ratio

Once radiation data on the horizontal plane (at 0°) has been inputted, the user must then enter values (such as estimated temperature losses, availability, wiring losses, estimated losses from dirt, losses due to being outside of the Maximum Power Point, inverter losses, shade losses, tolerance of the modules, losses due to angle mismatch and loss due to estimated spectral angle) to calculate the overall performance or Performance Ratio (PR) of the installation.

After entering this data, the application will provide a PR value for the facility. The overall performance of a total facility usually varies between 85% and 70% depending on the factors mentioned above.

Then, on the same screen, the user must select the tilt angle, in the case of single-axis azimuth trackers, and proceed to the next screen to view the results.

The results screen then provides annually installed kWh / kWp production data in the selected location, showing the PR and availability both for dual-axis and single-axis trackers.

Finally, Solar PV Tracker provides a page showing where the Proinso Network installers nearest to the location selected on the initial map can be found and the radius determined by the user in kilometres. This helps users to contact the nearest Proinso Network installer with any technical or commercial queries they may have.

“In short, what we are aiming to do is reinforce our key objective: making the best use of renewable energy by optimising costs and always fulfilling the characteristics and standards required,” concludes Carrero.

Proinso, which forms part of the OPDE Group, has also announced that it will launch the iPhone and Android version of this application incorporating new features and improvements some time this month.
